TE 14 – D3 motorway Tábor – Veselí nad Lužnicí – České Budějovice – Czech/Austrian border

D3 motorway

The D3 motorway provides an important transport link between the Czech capital and the south of the country, and onward from there to Austria, forming part of the international European route E55.

The roughly 25 km section from Tábor to Veselí nad Lužnicí includes several large bridges (spanning 557.6 m over Koberný Lake, 751.4 m where it crosses Černovice Brook, and 1,056 m over the Lužnice River) and was built in 2008 – 2013.

A further 27.5 km section constructed in 2015 – 2019 then connects Veselí nad Lužnicí with České Budějovice, and includes a 192 m long bridge crossing over the Kyselá voda Stream as well as the Úsilné three-level interchange.

The 42.8 km section from České Budějovice to the Czech–Austrian border has been under construction in phases since 2019, with three sections to be finished in 2023 – 2024 and work to begin on the remaining two sections in 2023, scheduled for completion in 2025. The section Úsilné – Hodějovice involves a 1 km tunnel “Pohůrka”, which is being built as a cast-in-situ concrete box construction in an excavated pit. On the section Hodějovice – Třebonín a 778 m bridge is also being built across the Malše River.

09.15 – 10.45 tour of the completed D3 motorway Mezno – Tábor – Úsilné with one stop
on the way, arrival in České Budějovice

10.45 – 14.15 interpretation of the construction of the D3 motorway, tour of the under-construction buildings 0310 Úsilné –
Třebonín and 0311 Třebonín – Kaplice railway station, possibly two on the route
stops (or a preview of the continuation of the route), return to České Budějovice

14.15 – 16.30 transfer from České Budějovice to the Prague Congress Centre with one
stop on the way
